I Love You a TON Elephant Card

This week’s Midweek Throwdown Challenge at Operation Write Home is Cards 4 Kids!

I love making kid-friendly cards (my “I Wheelie Miss You!” Card was featured as a sample this week : ) and for this challenge I thought would make another card with a punny sentiment – as well as some elephant die cuts and cheerful colors:

I Love You a TON Elephant Card

I drew on the eyes and added some faux stitching to my diecuts with pens to add some definition and make it look quilted.  I hope a hero will enjoy sending it home once I mail it off to OWH!

Thanks for taking a look and hope you are having a great week!

“I Wheelie Miss You!” Card

I Wheelie Miss You

I’ve had this cute paper for a while and seeing the Midweek Throwdown Transportation challenge on Operation Write Home encouraged me to finally use it and make a kid-friendly card for OWH.   I made my punny sentiment in white and green to mimic a road sign.  A Zig 2-way glue pen helped me to tack down the skinnier parts of the die-cut.

“No lion, I love you!” Card

I used this cute lion on a valentine for my little nephew and cut out some extras to make some kid-friendly cards for Operation Write Home.  Coincidentally, the 2nd challenge of the OWH President’s Day Virtual Cardmaking Party (VCMP) was to make a kid-friendly critter card!

Seeing the challenge was an extra push to create a few of these cards instead of just having the pieces “lion” around ; )

I made my own sentiment with an alphabet set and popped up the end of the tails with some foam tape to add a bit of dimension.  The lion was cut on my Silhouette (a surprise Christmas present from my husband).

Thanks for taking a look and hope you have fun making cards for kids too!

A Couple of Cards for Kids!

This week  Operation Write Home and Lawn Fawn teamed up to host some challenges to make cards for kids, so it was a great reason to get out my animal stamps and cute paper and create!

The first challenge was to make a card for a child with this sketch:

So I used the sketch as my starting point and stamped this little lion on different patterned paper and then paper pieced him back together:

kraft, stamped missing you card for kids, clouds, chevrons, Basic Grey, paper piecing

I like how the chevron paper could serve as “grass” too:)

For a second card, I started with the challenge to use scallops and made a little hippo card to say hello:

Scallops, Basic Grey Shine On 6x6 Paper, Autumn Leaves' Mindy's Zoo, kraft card

I don’t always round corners, but I used my corner punch on this card to add softness.

They will go into my stack of cards for Operation Write Home:)

Stamps: Lion and Hippo Clear Stamps (Mindy’s Zoo Set by Autumn Leaves)

Other: “Shine on . . .” 6×6 Patterned Paper Pad (Basic Grey), Paper for Lion’s Tummy (My Mind’s Eye – just Dreamy 2 by Christy Lyle & Zoe Pearn), Kraft cardstock, Traditional Scallop Edge Punch (Martha Stewart), Corner Punch, Tuxedo Black Ink (Memento), Vintage Sepia Archival Ink (Versafine)

“Far Out!” Monkeys in Space Card

I stretched OWH Sketch #136 so I could play with the “Changito in Space” Clear Stamp Set and make a kid’s card.

Here is the sketch: And here is my card:

"Far Out!" Monkeys in Space Stamped Card

I usually stick to sketches pretty closely, but we were challenged to twist it up a bit and use punches.  As you can see, I took that challenge and ran with it!  I used stamps instead of punches for the three main images (but I did use a circle punch to cut out my stars and sentiment accent).  I made a few changes to the layout:

– I stretched the center rectangle to be the full-length of the card front

– I offset the 3 monkeys and sentiment

– I framed the sentiment with punches instead of a rectangle

It’s a little busier of a card then I usually make, but I hope it’s at least cheery.

Stamps: Changito in Space (Stampendous, Inc.)

Other:  Tuxedo Black Ink (Memento), Burst Punch (Fiskars Everywhere Punch Starter Set and Burst Cartridge), 1.5″ punch out circle, Small Circle Punch (EK Success), Silver Sharpie, Art Performance Markers for the button accents, light brown paper for the monkeys’ heads

Kids Giraffe Card to say “hi!”

Handmade Hi, "Thinking of You" Card for Child (from parent)

I had used these giraffe stamps on some Mothers’ Day cards a few months ago, but thought they would also be cute for a kids’ card if I used some brighter colors and a polka-dot card background (OWH challenged its cardmakers to make a kids’ card this week).  I used a border punch to imitate some hilly “grass.”

Jungle-Themed Birthday Card

Stamped Monkey and Vine 1st Birthday Card

My friend was having a jungle-themed birthday party for her little one’s 1st birthday, so I decided it would be a great time to use some of my animal stamps and design a card to celebrate.  I knew I had to use the cute little monkey stamp:)  My detail-scissors came in handy for trimming the vine closely and I also used colored pencils to color in the stamped images so that the monkey’s cute expressions wouldn’t get hidden by dark marker.  For the final touch I added some neatly written text to the simple card and it was ready to go!

Stamps Used:
